Location

Villa Mala is situated in Malles in the prefecture of Lasithi which used to be the largest village of Ierapetra upon the Venetian domination. A remarkable site of the village is the church of the Virgin Mary built in 1431.

Between Malles and Christos, 2 km to the west, used to be the ancient city of Malla, that was independent and autonomous with its own currency on which on one side was depicted the image of Zeus’s head and on the other an eagle and the word ΜΑΛ (MAL). In the region were found vases and other objects of the Roman era.

Today Malles is one of the most graphic mountainous villages ( 600 m. height ), on the slopes of Diktis, in the middle of the thick forest region of Selakano , full of pine trees and oaks where nature created paths full of adventure. A region with a revitalizing climate which according to the traditional myths is full of positive energy.

The nearest beach is located in Myrtos just 14 minutes from Malles. Myrtos is a graphic coastal village well known for its splendid sandy beach; overgrow with banana and orange trees, built in the banks of the river Cryos. It has a very beautiful beach with fine sand, pebbles and crystal clear water. Near the village the ruins of an Early Minoan period settlement were dug up, while in the area of Saint Antonios there are ruins of Roman baths.
