To Pappoudiko

Hotel Overview

Pappoudiko is a building complex believed – based on historic writings – to have been built, in its first stage, between the Megalithic age and 1855. It is currently divided into an eastern and a western section, with the war-tower (polemopyrgos) reigning over the hotel and the broader region alike.

An interaction with different levels and the composition of the buildings walled in by stone courtyards and stone-built staircases give the impression of a self-contained village. All of the hotel’s buildings were restored in utter compliance with Mani’s genuine architecture. As a result, the restoration works managed to bring forth their particular structural and morphology-related features, thus rendering Pappoudiko an exceptional and utterly genuine specimen of Mani’s architectural design.

First-class apartments offering 5-star amenities were built according to Mani’s tradition and equipped in a way promoting each and every apartment’s own personality. At the same time, all the spaces offer the most modern amenities and equipment and comprise authentic antiques and details reflecting the owners’ intention to create a hospitable space immersed in a spirit of discreet luxury.

Pappoudiko was created in a way urging visitors to discover it. It enchants its guests thanks to its uniqueness, its warm and high-standard hospitality. It conquers them with its artless beauty, drawing them back to it with its lure. Just as Mani itself.

Location

Pappoudiko is located in the area of Areopolis/Laconia in Peloponnese.

Rooms

The buildings that have now been restored were arranged in 7 luxurious traditional first-class apartments offering 5-star amenities and guaranteeing your best possible service. The building complex is divided into an eastern and a western section. All apartments have been furnished with rare antiques, with particular attention to decoration, based on the land’s traditions and the customs of that time. The stone-built staircases and stone courtyards of the surrounding building are also characteristic.

Eastern section

War-Tower (Polemopyrgos)
The symbol of Pappoudiko, the genuine three-storey war-tower (polemopyrgos) of Mani, with the typical embrasures or loopholes (polemotrypes) used for firearms and machicolations or murder holes (zematistres) for pouring hot oil, for instance, at the enemies, overhangs the landscape and offers its guests the privilege of enjoying an unparalleled panoramic view of the impressive scenery.

Built in 1835, the tower can accommodate up to 3 people in the age range of 15-50 since indoor access from one storey to the other is only possible by steep stairs. Having its own kitchen and bathrooms, the tower offers its guests ultimate autonomy and above all takes them to a whole new era, bringing the true heart of Mani to life.

Arches (Kamares)
The name of the basement (katogi) of the hotel’s central two-storey building (anogokatogo) – kamares (the word translates “arches” in English) – built in 1855, was not given by chance. With its characteristic arched rooms and an atmosphere resembling fairytales, this is a profoundly warm space bound to stir up the senses and be forever imprinted on the minds of its 2-4 guests.

Fine details abounding in class and finesse and exquisite equipment make visitors feel they have everything they ever wanted out of a traveling experience. After all, the space provides preferential access to the commonly used facilities of Pappoudiko.

Solarium A (Iliako A)
Solarium A is the first upper-floor apartment (anogi) of the central two-storey building. This is a unique apartment introducing an entirely new dimension from all aspects. Bright and with a fairytale atmosphere, Solarium A offers much more than just a pleasant stay. Its picturesque veranda where one can enjoy the view of the complex as a whole is characteristic, not to mention the unsurpassed view of a never-to-be-equaled sea horizon. Solarium A is a space bound to quench the senses of its 2 guests.

Solarium Β (Iliako B)
Solarium B is the second upper-floor apartment of the two-storey house. With a stylish entrance making you feel like sneaking into a marvelously warm and hospitable space and an entirely different era at the same time, the small apartment capable of accommodating 2 people resembles a wonderful little “nest”. A bit more isolated and private, this hospitable room guarantees a stay you will never forget.

Western section
Megalithic
This is a two-storey house with an impressive “megalithic” structure and the typical massive stone slabs and stone beams – the so-called makronia. Spacious and appealing, with a special and unusual entrance and a layout adding mystery thanks to its two storeys, it guarantees unforgettable moments for its guests (2-5 people). With isolated corners as well as gathering points and a veranda offering incredible images and feelings, Megalithic is the right choice for friends to gather around and unwind and the ideal house for a family.

Guesthouse (For Disabled Guests)
An apartment meeting any current standard in terms of disabled accommodations and at the same time uniquely enhancing the atmosphere of Pappoudiko. Built in 2003 and completely integrated with the genuine style of the complex, the Guesthouse can cater for 2-4 people. With particular attention to every minor detail, this exceptional place was made with special care to enable its guests to savor a relaxing experience.

New Solarium (Neo Iliako)

New Solarium is the upper-floor apartment of the most recent building of the complex, built in 2003. Its comparative advantage lies in the wonderful tiny flat roof overlooking the heart of the complex and a veranda ensuring a unique view of the sea. The apartment stands out thanks to its discreet luxury and promises a stay bound to be indelibly impressed on the minds of its 2 guests. Thanks to its strategic position and the rather harmonized amenities offered in its interior, New Solarium is the right choice if you want it all.
