History

Giacomo Brufani, originally from Assisi, came from a peasant family, but at an early age he developed a pronounced aptitude for tourism. In fact he used to act as an assistant to tourists visiting Umbria by stagecoach. He would tie the horses, see to animals' needs and then take the people on tours of the various towns. But Mr Brufani decided to offer more qualified hospitality and in 1884 he built the Hotel which was to immortalize his name. All the greatest names of high society and nobility of Europe vied with each other for a Room at this Hotel, the latest in modernity and luxury. Among the recent most important guests, Albert of Monaco and the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother of England.
