Location

Set high on a hill amidst 27 acres of salt-air gardens, the inn overlooks the historic seaside resort of St. Andrews with golf, galleries, enchanting harbor, and the world’s highest tides.

Rooms

Kingsbrae Arms retains the intimate scale of a private country house with gracious proportions. The house is reserved for the registered guests alone. The downstairs rooms are not open to the public.

The Princess Royal Guest Room: The Princess Royal is perched high up on the third floor of the main house commanding superb views of the inn's herb and flower gardens below and the magnificent sea beyond. This room is decorated in floral blue toile and rose tones. The gas log fireplace surround features whimsical English bisque ties with scenes from a garden. The spacious bathroom is appointed with travertine marble and a walk-in shower. The six-foot whirlpool tub built for two sits under an elliptical window with views to the stars.

The Queen  Guest Room: This generously proportioned room on the second floor of the main house features two rice carved four-poster queen sized beds in a warm sunshine yellow setting festooned with sky blue chintz balloon shades. The gas log fireplace with blue glazed tile surround is set in a raised panel wall with inglenook and window box seat overlooking Kingsbrae herb and flower garden and the sea. The bathroom is appointed with Carrara marble and features an oversize cast iron soaking tub and separate walk-in shower. Exuberant wallpapers herald the joys of spring.

The Earl Junior Suite: The Earl is a cozy two-room junior done in buff and royal gold, and tucked under three gables of the west wing on the third floor of the main house. A separate living room  features a gas log fireplace with whimsical English bisque gardener tiles. The balcony commands three different views of St. Andrews, gardens, and sea all the way to Maine. A king size crowned canopy bed dominates the bedroom. The en suite travertine marble appointed bathroom has a whirlpool bath and shower combination.

The King: This one bedroom suite on the second floor of the main house includes the family quarters of the  original owners dating back to 1897. There are two gas log fireplaces with original mantles and surrounds that have been restored with care to retain the historic charm. The bedroom and living room are draped with burgundy and plum colors and trimmed with hand tied silk Scalamandre tassels. There is a tapestry of knights in armor behind the headboard of the handmade king sized four-poster draped canopy bed. The balcony commands sweeping views of the inn's herb and flower gardens and the sea beyond. The completely updated bathroom is clad with Carrara marble and features a six-foot whirlpool tub and separate walk-in shower, each built for two. This suite is just steps away from an open bar and pantry.

The Garden: This one bedroom suite on the second floor of the main house includes the master bedroom,  bathroom and private study of the original owners dating back to 1897. Everything has been restored with care to retain the historic charm. There are two gas log fireplaces-an Adam style mantle and hearth in the living room, and a paneled fireplace and bay window in the bedroom. The bedroom and living room are draped with cool floral green toile. Wallpapers reflect the beauty of the garden. A Japanese wedding kimono, richly woven with gold threads, hangs behind the headboard of the hand made king-size four-poster draped canopy bed. A balcony ensures full enjoyment of the formal knot gardens below and the sea beyond. The updated bathroom features an oversize cast iron soaking tub and a corner walk-in shower clad with massive slabs of Carrara marble. This suite is just steps away from an open bar and pantry.

The Prince of Wales: This baronial bedroom and living room on the second  floor of the main house is done in warm coffee and cream tones with sea green tumbled stone wallpaper and portraits of H.R.H. Edward, The Prince of Wales. The suite and balcony have sweeping town, garden, and sea views from three sides of the house. The bedroom features a hand made king-sized draped canopy four poster bed with a Chinese silk robe suspended behind the headboard. The gas log fireplace is set in a raised panel wall surrounded by gleaming black glazed tiles. The bathroom is appointed with travertine marble and faux marble wallpapers, antique pinewood shutters, and features a cast iron claw foot soaking tub and separate walk-in shower. This suite is just steps away from an open bar and pantry.

The Pinnacle: The Pinnacle occupies the entire east wing of the third floor and offers "his and her" bathrooms and an expansive balcony with the most spectacular views the inn has to offer-formal knot gardens below, and the magnificent sea beyond. This suite features a well-stocked wet bar and pantry, and two gas log fireplaces; one in the bedroom and another in the living room. These fireplaces feature whimsical English bisque tiles of gardeners on the surrounds. This suite features a finely woven Chinese tapestry of four cranes suspended above the headboard of the handmade king-sized four-poster draped canopy bed. The two bathrooms are appointed with travertine marble, six-foot whirlpool tubs built for two and walk-in shower.

The Carriage House: The Carriage House is separate from the main house and has its own private entrance to the garden and an extra sleeping alcove. This suite stands apart for those who  want to be away from it all, and it features more living space than any other accommodation. Floor to ceiling French style patio doors open to a balcony spanning the entire wing overlooking the garden and spectacular sunrises over the sea.  There is a gas log fireplace in the living room and an open kitchen plan and fully stocked wet bar. The master bedroom features a handmade king size four poster draped canopy bed. A queen size sleigh bed rests in a cozy nook off the living room making it perfect for small families.

Food & Beverages

The kitchen at Kingsbrae Arms presents a wide variety of specials for the table featuring the abundant bounty from land and sea, near and far.  The chef  presides over every detail of their preparation and presentation. Many of these items reveal the flavors of the sea: Bay of  Fundy salmon, lobster, and shrimp, Digby scallops, Prince Edward Island oysters and mussels, and Cobscook Bay rock crab. Savory meats and game dishes punctuate the table including bison, elk, caribou, red deer, and wild boar, pheasant, partridge, duck and quail. Artisanal cheeses are imported from dairies in Quebec and France. And then there is the abundance of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Local signature ingredients include maple syrup, cranberries, strawberries, raspberries, and wild blueberries from nearby fields as well as homegrown herbs.
